Universities and Research Institute

Universiteit Leiden’s Centre for Sustainability (CfS) was founded as one of eight joint centres as part of the Strategic Alliance between three universities: Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam, hence LDE. By developing and sharing multidisciplinary scientific knowledge, LDE CfS is able to actively build bridges between science and society by working together with universities, companies and governments on the challenges and opportunities surrounding the transition towards a circular economy.

Specifically COLLECTORS counts with the expertise offered by:

  • Institute of Environmental Science (CML), Faculty of Science, Leiden University

  • Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam

CML’s main area of work is research and education in the multidisciplinary field of sustainability science, drawing from both the natural and social sciences. Within CML, the department of Industrial Ecology, focuses on the development, integration and application of analytic tools such as Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Input-Output Analysis and Mass Flow Analysis to study the environmental impacts of economic activities. Such tools can be used to inform policies concerning sustainable production and consumption. CML is a partner in the EIT KIC Raw Materials.

Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) is committed to promoting global social responsibility, sustainability and the highest ethical standards in research, teaching and in every service we provide. We have faculty and staff members who dedicate themselves to embedding these issues into coursework, initiatives and school-wide activities. We want to ensure that our students understand and acknowledge that their managerial decisions profoundly affect society, and it is our ambition, that as graduates, they will be equipped to make critical decisions in sustainable business operations wisely.
